How to Import Genuine Leather from Nigeria: A Buyer's Guide for Europe & the US
A practical guide for European and American buyers sourcing genuine Nigerian leather — grades, minimum orders, secure payment, shipping and lead times.
Nigeria is one of the world's great leather origins — the source of the fine goatskin that Europe spent centuries calling "Moroccan leather". If you are a buyer in Europe or the United States looking for a genuine leather supplier from Nigeria or Africa, this guide walks you through exactly how it works, from first enquiry to delivery.
Why source leather from Nigeria?
- Heritage quality. Nigerian Sokoto goatskin has been prized by bookbinders and luxury houses for generations. Read the story in our guide to Sokoto leather.
- Price. Buying direct from the origin — not through a European re-seller — removes several margins from the chain.
- Volume & variety. Cow hides, goatskin, sheepskin, shoemaking leather and bag leather are all produced and traded here, centred on Kano, Aba and Onitsha.
- English-speaking trade. Nigeria's business language is English, which removes a lot of friction for UK, Irish and US buyers.
What you can source
Whole hides and half-hides, cut sheets, shoemaking leather, and bag-grade leathers. If you're not sure what you need, browse the current catalogue or send us the finished product you're making and we'll advise the right leather for it.
Understand the grades before you buy
"Genuine leather" is a legal minimum, not a quality tier. Ask specifically for full-grain (strongest, most premium), top-grain, or a named type. Our guide to full-grain vs top-grain vs genuine leather explains the difference in plain terms so you order the right thing.
Minimum orders & pricing
We price by the piece, so you see the total cost for the exact dimensions you need — no guessing from a per-square-foot rate. For trade and wholesale volumes, message us with the quantity and grade and we'll quote you directly. Small first orders are welcome: many overseas buyers start with a sample order to check quality before committing to a container.
Payment: secure and prepaid
Orders are paid securely online before dispatch. Card payments are processed through Paystack, so your payment details are handled by a certified payment processor, not by us. This protects both sides: you pay a verified business, and we ship against a confirmed order.
Shipping to Europe & the US
For samples and smaller parcels, international courier is fastest. For wholesale volumes, air or sea freight is arranged based on weight and destination. Because duties, taxes and freight depend entirely on your country and order size, we confirm the delivery route and cost with you directly after you choose what you want — never as a hidden line at checkout.
Verify quality before you pay a stranger
Buying across a continent, you should never pay blind. We'll send close-up photos and video of the actual leather, and both our warehouses — Ochanja Market in Onitsha and Ariaria Market in Aba — are real, visitable places. Our full checklist is here: how to verify Nigerian leather before you buy.
How to start
Tell us what you make, the grade and quantity you need, and your country. Message us on WhatsApp or through the on-site chat, or browse the shop and send the product ID of anything that fits. We'll confirm availability, price and the delivery route — and you pay only when you're satisfied.
